Find quick answers to common questions about Join This Game. If you’re new to the platform, this page will help you understand how everything works.
Accounts & Access
Do I need an account to play?
You’re free to play without an account.
As a guest, you can join any game that’s being hosted, including premium games, with no setup at all. Just keep in mind that guest play is limited — you can only host a small selection of free games, your progress isn’t saved, you only get the base emoji set, and Crews aren’t available until you sign up. When you’re ready for the full experience, you can create an account in just a moment.
Why create an account, and what does it do for me?
An account makes the experience personal and unlocks core features.
Your progress is saved, your persona carries across games, you can add friends, join unlimited Crews, and author one Crew of your own. You also get access to the full Core emoji set, your Profile, privacy controls, and the ability to host all free games. Membership is only needed if you want to host premium titles yourself.
Is there a membership?
Membership is optional and only affects what you can host and customize — not what you can play.
Without a membership, you can host all free games and join any game that’s being hosted, including premium ones. A membership unlocks premium games for you to host, access to premium emoji sets, and the ability to create unlimited Crews, but it never limits your ability to join or participate in games.
What’s the difference between an account and a membership?
An account gives you a personalized, persistent experience.
With an account, your progress is saved, your persona carries across games, you can join unlimited Crews, and you can manage one Crew of your own. You also get access to Core features like your Profile, privacy controls, and hosting for all free games.
Membership adds optional hosting and customization perks.
It unlocks premium games you can host, premium emoji sets, and the ability to create unlimited Crews. You never need a membership to join games — even premium ones — and all core gameplay remains fully available without it.
How do I create an account?
You can create an account in just a moment — it only takes a few quick steps.
Just follow the steps on the registration page and you’ll be ready to dive right in.
What if I forget my password?
You can recover your account at any time.
Use the “Forgot your credentials?” option on the sign‑in page — it will ask what you need help with and guide you through the right steps. Your account and progress will stay exactly as you left them.
Is my account secure?
We use modern, industry‑standard practices to protect your account. Passwords are stored in a protected, non‑readable form, and sensitive actions require verification. We use secure session handling, rate limiting, and other safeguards designed to prevent unauthorized access. No login details are ever stored in plain text or shared with third parties. For a deeper look at how we handle security, see the section on Privacy & Cybersecurity.
Games & Gameplay
Are the games multiplayer?
Yes — the platform is built for multiplayer play. Most games are designed to bring people together, whether you’re in the same room, on a call, or playing from anywhere with an internet connection. Single‑player games do exist for quick solo moments, but the focus is firmly on social, shared experiences.
What’s the difference between joining a game and hosting a game?
Hosting creates a new game room; joining lets you enter one that already exists. When you host, you choose the game, start a fresh lobby, and share the room code with others. When you join, you’re entering a lobby someone else created using the code they give you.
How do I join a game?
You can join any game from the Join page. Just enter the room code. If you’d rather browse, you can explore the game library, pick a game, and join an existing lobby — or host your own when the game allows it. Both paths work whether you’re signed in or playing as a guest.
How do I host a game?
You can host a game directly from the game library. Just choose a game and select the option to create a new lobby. You’ll receive a room code to share with your friends, and players can join whether they’re signed in or playing as guests.
Do games have tutorials?
Yes — every game includes its own built‑in overview. Just browse the game library and open a game’s About screen to see how it works, including the rules, objectives, and scoring. Many games also offer helpful tips as you play, but the About screen gives you everything you need to get started.
What are mini‑games, and why do they exist?
Mini‑games are quick, arcade‑style challenges you can play between rounds. They’re optional, lightweight moments of gameplay that keep everyone engaged while the host sets up the next round. Mini‑games let players earn fun bonus points that don’t affect the main game’s score, but they do give everyone a chance to compete for the next host spot if that feature is enabled. They’re completely optional to turn on and optional to join — just a little extra energy during the downtime between rounds.
Social Features
What do friends do on the platform?
Friends let you keep track of the people you enjoy playing with. When you add someone as a friend, you can see when they’re online, join their games more easily, and stay connected across sessions. You can add or remove friends from the Members List at any time, and you can block or report someone if you ever need to. It’s the simplest way to build your own circle inside the platform.
Why should I add friends?
Friends make it easier to jump into games together. You’ll see when they’re active, get notified when they host, and join their lobbies with fewer steps. It turns quick sessions into ongoing connections.
What are Crews?
Crews are identity‑based groups you choose to belong to. They give you a shared banner, a sense of team identity, and a place to gather with people you play with often. When you’re invited into a Crew or create one yourself, your group can track its activity together and show up as a unified team across the platform.
Why join or create a Crew?
Crews give your group a real presence on the platform. You can see who’s active, follow your Crew’s activity, and play under a shared identity when hosting or joining games. It’s a powerful way to organize the people you play with most and keep your circle connected across sessions.
What happens when my Crew plays together?
Your Crew’s activity is tracked as a group. When you host or join games as a Crew, your sessions contribute to your shared history, making it easy to see how your group plays over time and compare your progress with other Crews.
Do I need to be friends with everyone in my Crew?
No — Crews and friendships are separate. A Crew is a group identity, while friendships are personal connections. You can be in the same Crew without being friends, and you can be friends without sharing a Crew.
What are notifications for?
Notifications help you get where you want to go faster. They let you know when friends are playing, when a game is ready for you, or when a Crew moment needs your attention. Every notification is actionable, designed to help you jump into the right place with a single tap, without ever feeling intrusive.
Can I control what notifications I receive?
Yes — you’re always in control. You can choose which notifications you want to receive, so you only get the updates that help you jump into games, follow friends, or stay connected with your Crews.
Technical & Troubleshooting
What devices are supported?
Join This Game works in any modern web browser. It runs on desktop, laptop, tablet, or mobile with no downloads or installations required. If you prefer, you can also add it to your home screen for an app‑like experience.
Why can’t I join a lobby?
Most of the time, this is just a brief hiccup. The lobby may be full, the game may have already started, or your connection may have dipped for a moment. The platform will try to reconnect you automatically, and a quick refresh usually puts you right back in without disrupting the game.
Can I rejoin a game if I get disconnected?
Yes — the platform is built to bring you back smoothly. If you step away or your connection dips, you can usually rejoin by returning to the same room code. Your spot stays reserved so the game can keep moving and you can slip back in without disrupting the group.
What should I do if something isn’t working?
If something feels off, we want to know. You can reach out anytime through the Contact page to describe what you're experiencing, and we’ll take a look.
Privacy & Cybersecurity
How do you protect my data?
Your data is handled with modern, industry‑standard security practices. Passwords are stored in a protected, non‑readable form, and sensitive actions require verification. We use secure session handling, rate limiting, and other safeguards designed to prevent unauthorized access. Even in the unlikely event of unauthorized access, your password cannot be read or used in plain form.
What information do you store?
Only the information needed to run your account and the games you play. This includes your login credentials, your persona, your game progress, and any settings you choose. The platform is intentionally designed to ask for the bare minimum required for things to work, and nothing more. Payment details and billing information are handled securely by our payment processor and are never stored on our servers. If you choose to opt in to certain types of updates or marketing, we may ask for a bit more information — but this is always optional and fully under your control.
Do you track me across the site?
We only track what’s necessary to make the platform work smoothly. This includes things like session activity, game state, and performance data. We don’t use invasive tracking, and we don’t follow you around the internet.
We also use basic analytics to understand overall usage and improve the platform. These tools show general activity patterns, not personal identities, and they don’t store IP addresses in a personally identifiable way.
Can I delete my data?
Yes — you’re always in control of your account. You can request account deletion at any time, and we’ll remove your data from our systems except where retention is required for security or legal reasons.
